This environmentally-friendly panda is an example of what can be accomplished by recycling. The coverings of the panda are thin, woven copper wire and recycled aluminum printing plates; the latter gives the bear a faux patchwork quilt appearance, hence the name. According to the artist, "the use of recycled materials highlights the restoration and healing of our natural environment. Symbolically the act of weaving refers to creation and life. The process of weaving as well as the stitching of a patchwork for the body thus symbolizes the preservation and protection of the Panda."
