Rich and 'Celadon Panda' Celadon Panda (and Rich)

This panda was painted to simulate the appearance of the celadon pottery, with its cracked-glaze finish, that was originally produced in China more than a millennium ago. The mound the bear sits on was painted to emulate ancient Chinese calligraphic ink brush painting. The artist claims that the bamboo depicted symbolizes "moral integrity, purity, and the ability to withstand adversity," all admirable qualities for a work of art intended to outlast the ravages of more than four months of public display on the sidewalks of Washington.
